N2 - Background: We followed the outcomes of the capsular-shift procedure to manage posteroinferior instability of the shoulder. Methods: Twenty shoulders in 19 patients were included. The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) shoulder index and the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder score were recorded before and after surgery. The scores were analyzed statistically using paired t tests. Patient satisfaction was also evaluated. Results: ASES shoulder indexes improved significantly after surgery (76±2 to 90±5, P <0.01), as did UCLA shoulder scores (24±3 to 31±4, P <0.01). After surgery, patient satisfaction was good to excellent for 18 shoulders and fair to poor for two. Conclusions: The inferior capsular-shift procedure was effective in treating posteroinferior multidirectional instability of the shoulder, with a high rate of satisfactory results.
