N2 - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is multifactorial metabolic disorder associated with dysfunction of pancreatic β cells, resulting in impaired insulin signaling, abnormal glucose metabolism, and increased oxidative stress. Current nutraceutical therapies for T2DM are facing great challenges such as adverse effects; therefore, the novel techniques are being considered to achieve sufficient therapeutic outcomes. The nutraceuticals are biological molecules derived from various plant species and known for their beneficial therapeutic effects. These include vitamins, antioxidants, amino acids, and fatty acids that are used to prevent disease and control the symptoms. However, their therapeutic ability gets reduced with advancement of time. As a consequence, encapsulation techniques are being considered to retain their properties by slow degradation. In this chapter, we will discuss about various nutraceuticals and their encapsulation aiming for treatment of T2DM.
