摘要
This research examines the Philippine Chinese manuscripts from the Herzog August Bibliothek regarding how the Chinese sangleyes learned Spanish in the 17th Century in the Philippines. The manuscripts Folangji huaren huabu were seen as the earliest manuals ever found about learning Spanish by phonics written in Chinese vernacular Hokkien with mandarin Chinese transcriptions. The phonic coherence and discrepancies as well as certain enigmatic writings have inspired our investigation. Hence, we attempt to study how the sangleyes adapted the lingüistic culture for the assimilation with Spaniards and Spanish-Philippines during the colonial days. © 2022 Real Academia Espanola.
