摘要
Disablement can be described as the process of moving from ability to inability to perform tasks and activities as a result of a physical or mental health condition. Several conceptual models have been proposed to explain the disablement process. This entry reviews the Nagi scheme; the International Classification of Impairment, Disability, and Handicaps; the Disablement Process Model; and the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health. The models describe the pathway to disablement, and identify factors that can inhibit or promote this process. This entry examines characteristics of these models and discusses how they have contributed to the current discourse on disability.
