摘要

An apparatus to calibrate the system for measuring neonatal O2 consumption and CO2 production has been developed. This system is based on the alcohol combustion principal. In vitro test of indirect calorimetric system, alcohol combustion is used very often, due to its simplicity and stability. In this paper, the design can burn alcohol continuously at a rate of 0.006 ml/min and consumes O2 only 7.86 ml/min, which is in the range of neonatal breath, especially for the premature infants. The alcohol combustion test precisely under a desirable low combusting rate for imitating the breath of a small sized infant, and suitable for canopy open circuit system, is developed. It will be helpful in the study of neonatal energy consumption.
