N2 - Anodic stripping voltammetry (ASV) has been applied to analyze theconcentration of heavy metals in natural water for many years. However, ifwater samples contain organic ligands, the analysis of these metals using ASVwill be severely interfered by the formation of metal complex. This artifact isusually found in the samples obtained from rivers, estuaries and coastal areas, especially highly polluted water samples. The degree of under or overestimation of heavy metal contamination usually ranges several orders ofmagnitude. To eliminate this interference, UV light treatment is usuallyapplied to release the metals from metal complexes. However, the time forUV exposure required to eliminate the interference has not been logicallydetermined. Based on this consideration, the aim of this paper is to developan algorithm for eliminating the interference derived from metal complexformation when conducting ASV in the determination of heavy metals in river, estuarine, or coastal water.
