一般外科領域細分為胃腸外科、 代謝及減重外科、大腸直腸外科、肝膽外科、乳房外科、內分泌外科(如甲狀腺、胰臟及腎上腺手術)及器官移植等領域，每位主治醫師將依其專長為病患提供專業的服務。近來有許多高科技醫療產品及技術的研發。本科的特色以微創手術的發展及目前最熱門的文明病-肥胖症的手術治療為主，一般外科特別成立微創手術室以最先進的影像系統及達文西機械手臂系統提供給各次專科病患最佳的手術服務。
