Abstract

The concept of simulation has been widely applied in medical education for several decades. In simulations, participants can practice or respond numerous times in near-real situations in order to prevent errors occurring in the real world. The main effects of this teaching strategy are to help the participants to be motivated to learn actively, to enhance and convey their knowledge and skills in clinical practice, and to increase their self-confidence and communication skills. This is an effective teaching strategy for the training of health care professionals who need to collect useful information, assess it, and make appropriate decisions. The concept of simulation has also been integrated into professional board examinations. However, simulation education faces challenges related to insufficient manpower, budgeting, and equipment. Government, hospitals, and academia should work together to identify solutions for the development of platforms such as training centers and standard patient data banks; this will enable resources to be integrated and shared, thereby enabling the use of simulation in education to be more effective and efficient.
