Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze total quality management (TQM) in nursing and its related factors. The study utilized a cross-sectional method. Subjects were recruited from a regional hospital in Taipei. The inclusion criterion for clinical nurse and head nurses, as well as volunteers, was that they have more than six months' practical experience. Self-developed questionnaires with TQMCS and TQMPS and TQMS were used for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOV A, Scheffe's posteriori, Pearson's correlation and Stepwise regression. Major findings of this study were as follows: (1) The mean of performing degree of total quality management was 3.63. (2) Clinical nurses' age, working experience, marital status and working unit had a significant impact on total quality management. (3) Total quality management culture and total quality management perception had a significant impact on total quality management. (4) Total quality management culture could predict total quality management. This research came to the conclusion that the more staffs total quality management perception was enhanced, the higher the performance of total quality management, bringing about a good total quality management culture. It is suggested that nursing managers conduct more total quality management training, and enhance staffs' total quality management perception, and really implement total quality management.
