Abstract

PURPOSE: We evaluated diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (US-FNAC) for
women for women with palpable breast lesions.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We reviewed 400 patients with palpable breast lesions with cytology specimens. Finally,
126 cases with US-FNAC and surgical specimens were enrolled. Diagnostic criteria for US diagnosis of breast
lesions were categorized as BI-RADS 0 to 5 according to American College of Radiology Breast Imaging Reporting
and Data System. The procedures were performed by two experienced radiologists. All specimens were stained with
Diff-Quik method and were interpreted by cytopathologists.
RESULTS: The diagnostic sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 96.3%, 100%, 96.8%, respectively.
CONCLUSION: US-FNAC provides effective and accurate diagnosis for women with palpable breast lesions.
