Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore female medical personnel behaviors toward breast cancer screening and its influencing factors based on health belief model. Structured questionnaire was used with purposive sampling, and subjects were recruited from a Taipei medical center in October 2007. The total sample size was 384 (complete rate of 51.6%). The results were as follows: Average age of subjects was 37±8.9 years old. 121 (32%) subjects performed breast self-examination (BSE) regularly, 12%hadmammography and 10% received physician clinical examination as recommended. Awareness of breast cancer susceptibility, self-efficacy of BSE, religion, age of menopause, and history of breast disease were factors to predict BSE performance by subjects (R^2=.142); Subjects perceived benefits in breast cancer screening while working years and history of breast disease could predict the decision to choose mammography (R^2=.225). According to research findings, we recommend that in order to improve breast cancer screening rate, health promotion agency should enhance BSE self-efficacy and understand the benefits involved in breast cancer screenings.
