Abstract

The Onsager phenomenological coefficients Lij for linear isothermal transport processes for electrolyte solutions have been calculated from the velocity time-correlation functions. Our approach is based on the assumption that the ionic velocities are evolved by the Fokker-Planck operator. The limiting law expression for Lij has been derived. In addition, numerical calculations using the HNC pair distribution function have been performed for several chloride solutions. The results indicate that our theory can qualitatively describe the experimental values up to a concentration of about 2 M.
