Abstract

This paper proposes an automatic assisted device for Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT). NDT rehabilitation is effective for stroke patients, but it is also labor-intensive for therapists. Consequently, patients cannot receive sufficient training because of the lack of therapists' assistance. Therefore, we develop an automated NDT trainer that can help reduce the therapists' workload and increase patients' practice time. We first apply a motion detection system to obtain the testing objects' motions and the therapists' actions during traditional NDT training. Then we develop an automatic NDT trainer that can repeat the therapists' actions and force patterns on the testing objects. Last, we conduct experiments and show that the proposed device is effective in reducing therapists' working loads and increasing the patients' training.
