abstract = "Surface-texture design to generate narrowly distributed ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) particles with specific sizes and shapes was discussed. The correlations between the surface texture dimensions and the size and shape of wear particles generated were obtained. Lengths and aspect ratios of the generated particles were measured by using an Scion Image software. The viscoelastic behavior of UHMWPE has an impact on the dimensions of generated particles. A larger normal load or larger cutting-edge height results in a larger penetration depth.",
