N2 - The two types of bioactive tissue adhesives were prepared by using autologous human thrombin. The clotting times as well as the levels of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF-AB) and transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) of platelet gels, obtained from PRP mixed with either bovine thrombin (BT) or autologous human thrombin (AHT), were compared. It was suggested that AHT is more potent trigger for granule secretion and growth factors release than BT, and is a suitable agent to activate PRP to prepare 100% autologous bioactive platelet gel. The use of AHT would avoid the immunological and infectious risks potentially associated to BT. AHT can be prepared with the plasma from the same donor using a specially designed reaction device.
