Pitfall in the management of multiple trauma in pregnancy. A case report

Abstract

A 22-year-old nulliparous woman sustained a vigorous impact during a car accident with resultant blunt abdominal trauma, pelvic fracture, right femoral shaft fracture, and left ankle malleolar fracture. Death of fetus occurred 13.5 hours after the accident. Postmortem fetal examination revealed subcural hemorrhage of left parietotemporal lobe. Perinatal loss due to direct fetal injury is not commonly encountered. Therefore, the case would be presented and the management of multiple trauma in pregnancy discussed.
