Abstract

A 66-year-old man with small cell lung cancer developed paraparesis and urinary retention. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an intraspinal tumor at the L1-2 level. A laminectomy was performed and a filum terminale tumor was removed. The pathology revealed metastatic small cell lung cancer. After surgical resection, the patient could walk with support. Radiotherapy was given postoperatively. The patient became septic following pneumonia and died two months after surgery. We could find no reports in the English literature of tumor metastasis to the filum terminale. This report presents the first case of small cell lung cancer metastasis to the filum terminale.
