Abstract
Noninvasive determination of oxygen delivery to the brain was obtained by using a newly designed three wavelength optical system, which consists of low power laser diodes and photo detectors. Using this near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) system, we investigated the relationship between directly measured jugular venous O2 saturation (SjO2) and regional cerebral O2 saturation (rSHbO2) as determined by NIRS. Results from ten cardiac surgical patients showed good quantitative correlations.
