Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of clinical cases, accompanied by academic commentary, that question and educate the reader about essential topics in implant dentistry, encompassing diagnosis, surgical site preparation and placement, restoration, and maintenance of dental implants. It discusses the concept of regular platform implants and explains the prosthodontic options for regular platform implants. It talks about loading protocols options for regular platform implants and the advantages of guided surgery. The chapter explains the difference between the terms wide-diameter and wide-platform/wideneck implant and the advantages and disadvantages of wide-platform/wide-neck implants for molar replacement. It reviews important criteria for implant selection in regard to diameter and platform. The case special surfaces explains how implant surface modifications impact healing and osseointegration and the structure of Trabecular Metal material (TM) and the process of osseoincorporation. The chapter explores the role of reduced-diameter implants in implant dentistry.
