Abstract
Purpose. Stapled hemorrhoidopexy (SH) is widely used for treating pro-lapsing hemorrhoids because the procedure is associated with less postoperative pain and short hospitalization duration. We aimed to compare the short-term results of SH with those of Milligan-Morgan hemorrhoidectomy (MMH). Methods. Patients with grade III and IV hemorrhoids who underwent either SH or MMH from August 2017 to November 2017 were reviewed. In total, 100 patients were included in this study. Postoperative visual analog pain scale (VAS), operation times, parenteral analgesic injection numbers, hospitalization durations, and complications were analyzed. Results. Of the 100 patients, 50 underwent SH and the remaining underwent MMH. The short-term outcomes and demographics showed no significant between-group differences. The number and last day of outpatient department (OPD) follow-ups were lesser in the SH group than in the MMH group. Conclusions. In our study, the number and last day of OPD follow-ups were lesser in patients under the SH group than in the MMH group.
