Abstract

In this study, three electrochemical procedures were employed to improve the conductivity of polypyrrole (PPy) films. One is to modify PPy with valence copper (Cu). Another is to synthesize a polyethylene oxide (PEO)/PPy composite. The other is an original method to polymerize PPy on a roughened gold (Au) substrate pretreated with electrochemical oxidation-reduction cycle (ORC). From the viewpoints of the effective enhancement in conductivity, the economic cost and maintaining the original property of PPy, the third method is the worthiest one to be recommended. The characteristics of the modified PPy were examined via X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy.
