Abstract

Barium peritonitis is a rare but life-threatening complication following gastrointestinal contrast study. We presented the case of a patient suffering from intestinal perforation after undergoing small bowel series. Although later computed tomography confirmed the diagnosis, prudent interpretation of the plain X-ray film might expedite diagnosis and reduce utilization of medical resources.
