Abstract
Guideline-based, computer-mediated decision support systems have been demonstrated to improve clinical care and patient outcomes in some diseases. However, the development of such systems tends to take a long cycle time that makes it difficult to put them into a wider scope of application. This paper presents a suite of guideline modeling and execution tools built on top of Protégé and Java technology that are not only easy to use but also capable of synthesizing the clinical decision support systems automatically for guidelines of moderate complexity. As a result, the turn around time for building such a system will be significantly reduced.
