Abstract

A heptachromium(II) metal chain helically wrapped by four all-syn type teptra3- ligands with delocalized Cr(II)-Cr(II)-Cr(II)-Cr(II)-Cr(II)-Cr(II)-Cr(II) multiple bonds is found in the complex [Cr77-teptra)4Cl2]. The band structure of a hypothetical one-dimensional chromium string based on this structure is calculated and shows metallic behavior for the string structure.
