Abstract

The purpose of this study was to understand the current condition about nurses' knowledge on medical laws. This understanding can then provided a good reference for the design nurses' on the job education of curriculum. This study used a questionnaire sheet containing 90 questions; reliability is 0.757 and difficultiablity is 0.713. The targets of this questionnaire were nursing staff both in public and private hospitals located in Taipei City. 7hospitals were choosing by the method of random selection. 708questionnaire papers were sent out, and 657 were collected. The in-out ratio is 92.8%. Five important findings were drawn from this study. 1.Average correct ratio of nurses' knowledge on medical laws is 78.54%. 2.Respondents were able to answer the greatest number of questions correctly for: The highest is Physician's Law 95.67%.The lowest is Human Organ Transplant Ordinance and its bylaws 65.25% 3.The first three questions of correct answers on knowledge of medical laws by nursing personnel are: (1)Nurses need to get a license to practice by registering and obtaining certification document through the city or county office. (2)Clinics should provide proper initial medication to emergency patients even without medical equipment for complete treatment. 4.Thequestions with the greatest percentage of wrong answers were: (1)Organ transplants may be arranged though monetary payment. (2)Under nursing law, nurses and accompanying staff are all considered nursing staff. 5.Nurses whose background included the allowing variables had higher percentages of correct answers: over 4.years experience, other marital status (widows, divorce and separation), university education and above, longer years of service, chiefs and deputies in nursing departments or working in regional hospitals.
