Abstract

Nursing clinical performance examinations have become a central professional and corporate issue. The purpose of this study was, by means of evaluation by experts, opinions of psychiatric nurses, and the results of the examinations, to explore the objectivity, acceptability, comparability and fairness of the Basic Psychiatric Nurses' Clinical Performance Examination. The 10 experts were highly knowledgeable about the form and content of the examination. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from the 112 psychiatric nurses. These 112 psychiatric nurses, who participated in the examinations, had intermediate and high degrees of knowledge about the form and content of the examination. The results of this study support that the objectivity, comparability, acceptability, and fairness of the psychiatric clinical examinations can be effectively demonstrated and foster an evidence-based performance examination approach to psychiatric nursing professional.
