Abstract
What are the major food contributors of calcium,Vitamin A, Vitamin B2 and other m-icronutrients in Taiwan? This quantitative inforinationis not only valuable in designing dietary questionnaire to study therelationship between diet and diseases, but also important inmutrition consultation and in making public health nutrition policy. Use was made of the dietary data collected by three day food weighingmethod in National Nutrition Survey carried out in 1970-1971, tosearch for the major food contributors of various nutrients anddietary components. Aiming at designing a simple dietary frequencyquestionnaire, foods were classified to 152 items depending on thesimilarity of the nutrient contents of foods and whether foods can bedifferentiated in a dietary recall. DBASE M was used to calculatedaily, per capita energy and nutrient intake, energy and nutrientprovided by each food iteiTi or category, and the relative percentcontributions of the foods. Foods contributing to the top 90 of everynutrient were listed according to their share of contribution.
