大學圖書館休閒功能之初探：臺灣十五所大學圖書館讀者觀點之研究

Traditionally, an academic library's primary mission is to augment teaching and research. In recent years, several academic libraries, however, have set up functional spaces embedded with casual atmosphere, aiming to attract potential users. This study first reviewed related literature, followed by semi-structured interviews. 76 in-library users from 15 academic libraries were recruited as the subjects. Their perspectives regarding functionality of academic libraries were explored. Research questions of this study include: (1) What leisure activities do the interviewees do when utilizing service provided by academic libraries? (2) Why and when do the interviewees visit academic libraries for the purpose of leisure? (3) What attitudes toward such an implementation do the interviewees hold? Findings of this study suggested that an academic library ought to respond to its users' needs actively and take account of the leisure functionality. Results of this study are expected to serve as the reference for space renovation and collection development in academic libraries.
