Abstract

Children's behavior is a key factor for successful dental care. For children without any dental experience, shaping is a procedure that successive approximation for children to be familiar with dental environment or treatment. Sample in this study are children at age 2 to 3 and for first dental visit at Wanfang hospital during 2011. They are also with complete behavior record during 2 stage TSD procedure, including 4 sections: (1) show three way & low speed with brush under parents' hug, (2)leave parents & go on to dental chair, (3)dental chair lay down, (4) show three way & low speed with brush when child lay down & fluoride application. The child with cooperative behavior during any of each section gets 1 point, ie, gets 4 points if the child cooperate all through 4 sections. The result how that children's behavior are no significant relationship with gender, doctor's level or age. But the weak positive correlation between age & cooperation imply children become more cooperative with age. Children behave more uncooperative when leaving parents to dental chair & lay-down of dental chair.
