Abstract
A group consists of a network among individuals which includes interactions and interdependence Group therapy is a small society within itself in which characteristics of society and people are evident Much research has shown that group cohesion is a crucial variable in group dynamics. Although group cohesion in small groups has been researched since 1950, there are still a variety of interpretations for the definition of group cohesion. Factors mediating or moderating group cohesion mainly focus on group members. The group leader, the group itself, group environment, and timing. A literature review showed that group cohesion affects outcomes of a group. With greater group cohesion, it is easier to achieve group goals as well as to provide a safe environment within a group. Therefore, group cohesion is an important therapeutic factor is a successful group.
