Abstract

Traffic accident and fall are the most common causes of spinal trauma which may cause serious consequences to patients and society. Therefore, the evaluation of the relations between the causes of spinal trauma and the characteristics of patients is important for injury prevention and control. We compared the characteristics of 574 spinal trauma patients caused by traffic accidents or fall in Taipei, the impact of age was also evaluated. Significant differences were found in age (p<0.001), associated injury (p<0.001) and level of spinal injury (p<0.001). Significant differences were also found in gender and season of injury after stratification by age. We recognized that age is an important factor impacting the relation between causes of spinal trauma and patient characteristics.
