Abstract
The purpose of “theme-classification and avatar-navigation in an augmented reality children library” project is to develop an innovative smart library which stimulating children readers to experience real-time navigation to find interesting books. Focusing on the cognitive ability differences between children and adults, and stimulating children’s interests in searching behaviors, we applied i-beacon technology combined with augmented reality APP. We first analyze library collections and design icons for different themes. Then a visualized navigation interface showing augmentation-reality searching-book environment was developed on mobile phone. The readers and their book-borrowed data were analyzed to develop the book-recommended information system. We finally measure 238 children opinions by an experiment and questionnaire which analyzed results demonstrated good usability. In the process of the system development, we cooperated with a higher vocational school for graphic-design learning course, and with primary school students for the verification of using information system, APP, and students’ information seeking behaviors. All these to demonstrate the concept of participatory design was introduced to create, a lifelong learning style, a virtual-physical integrated space, a thematic-learning library for multiple-readers, that should to support the National Library of Public Information as a digital learning resource center around Taiwan.
