Project Details
Description
Artificial intelligence (AI) has already been applied in the medical field such as medical image interpretation, clinical decision support, genetic sequencing and big data analysis. The need of AI in better healthcare is indisputable, but the question is how to integrate it successfully into the hospital. This project will help to implement AI in Taipei Medical University (TMU) and its three partner hospitals: Taipei Medical University hospital, Wanfan hospital, and Shuang Ho hospital. At present, AI has entered the rapid development due to the computational power, and it is expected that Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Natural Language Processing will become the major technology within 5 to 10 years. Indeed, these tools would be more effective in solving medical issues. Our aim is, use AI and data science to build precision prevention cohort - A Case Study of Cardiovascular Diseases. According to WHO report, cancer is an important public health issue worldwide and is also common type of chronic diseases. Annually around 25. million new cancer cases and 8.2 million cardiovascular-caused deaths occurred worldwide. Costs of cardiovascular treatment such as cardiac vascular/catheterization procedure and supportive care drugs keep growing and reached $150 billion globally in 2017.Therefore, cardiovascular disease is undoubtedly one of the most challenging health problems in the world. More efforts are needed to prevent and better control of this disease. Our proposed solution is, to use AI for modifying personalized cardiovascular diseases risk through prophylactic medications. The first year, our team will focus on model and method development and second year will apply knowledge in the clinical setting. Subprojects and team member names have given below. In order to promote this project and to achieve translation medicine; physicians of cardiovascular、neurology、gastroenterology, and sleep apnea related specialist from Taipei Medical University hospital, Wanfang hospital, and Shung Ho hospital will be invited.
