The serum markers is extremely useful in clinical practice, it is a safe and non- aggressive way to evaluate the affected patients, furthermore, the understanding of serum markers will also provide early diagnosis and possible pathogenesis of related disease. Therefore, recently, Academia Sinica made a Biosignatures proposal to study the biomarkers in several major diseases in Taiwan. The increasing prevalence of obese, metabolic abnormalities, menstrual irregularities in women with reproductive age was reported recently. The environment, diet and lifestyle interference may play an important role for this tendency. In reviewing the clinical studies published in the past two years, the increasing environmental hormones or endocrine disruptors (Endocrine-Disrupting Chemicals, EDCs) may be one of the important reasons in disruption of female reproductive system. However, it is still only sporadic reports EDCs associated with women of reproductive endocrinology has not been published. Chronic low-grade inflammation is an important cause of metabolic disease and cardiovascular disease. Oxidative stress was associated with insulin resistance. Obesity is the major threat on the modern women's health. Chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, and obesity had been reported closely related. We believe EDCs should significantly impact on women reproductive function. EDCs related to chronic low-grade inflammation and oxidative stress, which might be a major pathological pathway in disturbance of women's fertility and reproductive endocrinology. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) reported as in the chronic low-grade inflammation state and associated with obesity and insulin resistance. PCOS would be a study model. We plan to use three years to study the relationship between EDCs, chronic inflammation, and oxidative stress in women with/without PCOS. To explore the biomarkers and pathogenesis of women who had reproductive disturbance.
