Project Details
Description
Taipei Medical University established the first Team A rugby team. To reduce the sports injuries of rugby players, Taipei Medical University Shuanghe Hospital set up the "Taipei Medical University Football Team Sports Injury Medical Team" to provide rugby players the best medical care.In the past concussion was seen as a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Most injuries were overlooked because there was no immediate acute neurological damage. With the growing studies of concussion on athletes, and we found that these athletes tend to be more anxious, sensitive and cognitively biased than their average counterparts after a period of time. In this study, we will collect 30 rugby team members for the experimental group, in addition, collecting 30 non-football team students as control group. We will collect experimental group and control group members the followings data: 1. Basic physiological data, 2. Serum data Biomarker (S-100B, NSE, and T-tau protein) 3. Diffusion Tensor Image (DTI) 4. The Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (5th SCAT). The above information is expected to establish the relevance of these variables to the severity of the disease. We plan to establish a risk assessment model for cumulative concussion for rugby player to predict occurrences of brain diseases. Therefore, we can determine how many events of concussion that rugby players can tolerate to improve rugby safety.
