As a stringently peer-reviewed journal edited by an international Editorial Board and published by a globally renowned publisher, Journal of Biomedical Science (JBS) encompasses all fundamental and molecular aspects of basic medical sciences. There are four specific goals for the development of JBS. 1) To become an international periodicals 2) To enhance the international standing of research in Taiwan 3) To be a forum for young scholars in Taiwan to publish in 4) To be included in the first 1,500 journals listed in Science Citation Index (SCI) Launched in 1994 as an English quarterly, JBS changed to a bimonthly publication in 1996, and has already been indexed in more than 10 prominent databases, including SCI, MEDLINE, EMBASE, BIOSIS, CA SEARCH, AIDSLINE, TOXLINE, and Life Sciences Collection. According to the 2008 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), JBS reaches 2.013 for its impact factor, and is regarded as the most important biomedical journal in Asia. To accelerate the dissemination of research information and provide maximum access to scholarly communication, JBS marks the transition from a subscription journal to an “open access” journal from January 2009, which means that the journal will be published only in an electronic format and freely accessible online.
