Under the impact of aging trend, medical and nursing staff will encounter patients’ death more and more frequently, and this often makes them feel strong negative emotions, and even influences their professional performance. However, death education for undergraduate student was insufficient in the past time, and exploring medical and nursing students’ own death reactions and developing their awareness to death before their professional career are necessary. The present study will take 160 medical and nursing students to experience a coffin-lying and fake funeral activity in 2020 and 2021 academic year, and realize its effects on death attitude, love and care, existence, suicidal thought, willingness to care dying patients through qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Effects of Experiential Death Education Scale and its short form will be developed and be utilized in the future VR experiencing activities. The contributions of the present study will be strengthening humanistic literacy of medical and nursing students, so that they can properly face the issues of dying patients in aging Taiwan.
