Fibromyalgia is characterized by chronic widespread pain, fatigue, cognitive disturbance, sleep disorders, somatic and psychological distress resulting in long term disability and impaired quality of life. There are significant socioeconomic and medical burden associated with fibromyalgia. Although several approaches have been proposed to treat fibromyalgia, the result of treatment is still unsatisfied. There is no cure treatment of fibromyalgia currently. The goal of the treatments of fibromyalgia is focused on alleviating pain, minimizing the impacts and enhancing function of fibromyalgia patients. Vibration therapy has been proposed in clinic to deliver low amplitude and vary frequency mechanical stimulation to the tissue. Vibration therapy shows the potential in treating patients in the sport and geriatric medicine. There are two different types of vibration therapy including whole body vibration and focal vibration therapy. Deep oscillation massage is a relatively emerging treatment modality consisting of a low-intensity, electrical current applied at varying frequencies (usually 5-250 Hz) to reduce swelling, promote tissue-healing and reduce pain. As applied manually, deep oscillation can mobilize the tissue fluid, alter internal tissue temperatures, stimulate nerve endings the helps relieve pain and improve soft tissue mobility. However, there is still rare clinical investigation on applications of deep oscillation massage for the patients suffering from fibromyalgia. Therefore, we will conduct a cross-over and single blinded randomized control trial to investigate the effects of deep oscillation massage comparing to traditional electrical and heat therapy in fibromyalgia patients. The goal of present study presents is to evaluate the clinical therapeutic benefit of deep oscillation massage for the patients with fibromyalgia and establish an evident-based treatment for fibromyalgia.
