Research of Wear Resistance and Biocompatibility on Dental Drills Surface with TiAlN Films

The research focuses on the dental drill for improving the durable ability and good biocompatibility. From the previous literature, there are many tools use TiN, AlN and TiAlN materials to improve durability. There are high hardness, high melting point, high chemical stability and low coefficient of friction and other characteristics through the process of surface nitriding. But the original substrate still maintains the toughness. These kind of hard-thin-film materials have been gradually applied in biomedical fields. The research was coated by magnetron sputtering of TiAlN films. It can produce antibacterial and increase the service life of medical equipment. Not only can reduce the frequency of replacing damaged equipment, but also reduce the infection caused by unclean equipment during operation. Adjust the process parameters of a TiAlN films coated on stainless steel medical device, through the correlation analysis, we expect to enhance the material properties of the substrate itself, biocompatibility, and antimicrobial activity. Therefore, this research uses TiAlN thin film technology in stainless steel dental drill on the defend wear and antimicrobial corrosion prevention. The first year, we use the RF magnetic controlled sputtering technology preparation of TiAlN film with copper elements and analysis of physical and chemical properties of materials. The second year, we evaluate the surface modification performance on blood cells and anti-bacterial effect by biocompatibility test. The third year, we confirm the TiAlN films with copper used in dental drill through live animal testing.
