Description

Subproject 2 : Preparation and Modification of Tungsten Oxide Nanomaterials and Its Application as Gas Sensors Abstract Recently environmental and energy issues have attracted increasing attention worldwide. Scientists have focused their R&D interests in saving energy and reducing carbon dioxide generation. The grand project plans to integrate R&D power from various research fields concerning these issues. Thus breakthrough in the field of gas sensor and catalyst can be achieved. The present project is the second subproject of grand project and will be responsible for the preparation and modification of tungsten oxide materials. During the first year, we will use gas condensation technique and sol gel method to prepare tungsten oxide materials. Corresponding characterization and its gas sensing performance will be investigated. Meanwhile, we will use novel synchrotron X-ray techniques to evaluate the gas sensing materials and catalysts prepared by other subprojects. Modification of tungsten oxide nanomaterials by adding other oxide or catalyst will be performed in second year. Synthesis of modified tungsten oxide nanomaterials by AAO or hollow mesosphere templates will also be attempted. At the third year, based on the results from previous years and other subprojects, optimization and module synthesis of gas sensing materials will be processed. By introducing mixed gases, sensing performance and catalysis reaction will be investigated.
