登革熱的威脅逐年升高,為近年來新興感染症的研究主軸,感染嚴重者甚至引起登革休克症候群、登革出血熱、肝損傷或登革腦病變。近期研究發現,登革感染病例在其康復之後具有發展心理疾病之高度風險,包含憂鬱症與帕金森氏症等。近期研究指出病毒感染造成的肝損傷會進一步引起神經性缺陷,顯示肝臟與腦部之間具有稱為『肝腦軸』之病理上的連結。然而,肝腦軸在登革病毒感染後引發的神經障礙之相關機制目前尚未清楚。本研究預期以臨床數據、動物實驗以及細胞實驗找出登革引起認知與精神障礙之可能的預測性生物標記,提供未來登革後神經性症狀之治療策略的發展,亦可對登革爆發區域提出早期警訊,以維護社區之心理衛生公共安全。
