Project Details

Description

The fundamental aspects of brain function that we target are amenable to multiple types of intervention. This means that the results have the potential to be translated into treatment strategies for cognitive decline and which will have relevance for neurodegenerative disorders. By identifying fundamental processes we provide the background for all types of relevant interventions. For example, age-related alterations in intrinsic dynamics would point to entrainment-based interventions (non-invasive stimulation, perceptual entrainment, etc); metabolic dysfunction would point to pharmacological or behavioural intervention; and noradrenergic features would point to pharmacological interventions. A second benefit of our project is the creation of an open data resource for other scientists to use. All of our data will be made available online in raw form, with optimal preprocessing done on it, and as a set of data derivatives. The latter, such as functional connectivity matrices, open up the use of the resource to researchers who do not have neuroimaging experience as they can use these directly in their analyses. Sharing our data in this way will create a unique resource that can be exploited for years to come by scientists in Taiwan and around the world, substantially increasing the value of the initial investment in the project.
