Hospital Patient Safety Culture-Comparison of Major Measurement Tools, Promotion Methods and Their Evaluation

To prevent medical errors and promote patient safety is a critical issue concerned in Taiwan health care industry. In recent years, Taiwan had implemented many strategies to promote patient safety, including establishment of patient safety reporting system, application of information technology on patient safety (RFID), etc. However, seldom studies have focused on team resource management (TRM) or so-called crew resource management (CRM). The major purpose of this study was to develop TRM models for Taiwanese healthcare professionals within the three year project period in order to promote healthcare quality and patient safety in Taiwan. We plan to conduct this project for 3 years as listed. A. 1 st Year—Current Situation of Team Resource Management (TRM) Training among Hospitals in Taiwan and Future Development of Related Curriculum. B. 2 nd Year—Promotion of Team Resource Management (TRM) Training among Hospitals in Taiwan and Outcome Evaluation C, 3 rd Year—Establishment of Team Resource Management (TRM) Training Model in Taiwan. The researchers expect to achieve the following five objectives through this 3-year project. 1. To analyze TRM models adopted in developed countries; 2. To investigate current situations of TRM training in domestic hospitals; 3. To develop a set of TRM teaching and learning materials, including multimedia materials, which can be used by Taiwanese healthcare professionals; 4. To evaluate outcomes of TRM training of Taiwanese healthcare professionals; 5. To study how to promote TRM among Taiwanese hospitals.
