Description
The primary objective of this project is to investigate the mechanisms by which chronic ethanol exposure promotes oral cancer (OC) progression, focusing on the RDH10-mediated retinoic acid pathway and its role in enhancing cancer stemness and disrupting antioxidant defenses. By elucidating these molecular pathways, the study aims to identify novel therapeutic strategies, including targeting the retinoic acid pathway and secretome profiling, to reduce tumorigenicity, enhance radiosensitivity, and eliminate malignant cancer stem cell populations. This research has the potential to generate significant societal, economic, and academic impacts. Scientifically, it will advance our understanding of ethanol-induced malignancy and provide actionable insights into cancer biology. Clinically, the findings could lead to the development of more effective treatment strategies, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs associated with recurrent and treatment-resistant oral cancer. Economically, successful therapeutic interventions may reduce the burden of oral cancer on healthcare systems.
