近年來NPFF參與能量代謝調控的研究越來受到重視。實驗室前期與初步結果顯示NPFF透過活化其第二亞型受體抑制下視丘弓狀核胰島素的訊息,惡化代謝疾病的病徵。臨床報告也指出,血液中的NPFF含量在肥胖或卡路里限制的個體上會改變,點出NPFF在肥胖相關疾病的重要性。肥胖、糖尿病等代謝異常是許多疾病的高危險因子,對社會經濟面影響巨大。NPFF將成為代謝疾病有潛力的治療目標,本計畫進一步了解其作用機制,相關研究將在社會健康層面有很大助益。本計畫同時延續先前結果,持續篩選NPFF受體高度專一性化合物,不只對於NPFF研究領域有所幫助,高度專一化合物將有機會發展成臨床用藥,未來可申請專利並進入臨床試驗研究。
