Project Details
Description
This research proposal is a four-year project and it is divided into three phases. The main research purpose is to develop and establish a walking plan in a local shopping mall and to validate older adults’ functional fitness, cognition, psychosocial status, and quality of life. In the first stage, we will plan and confirm walking routes, coordinate partners, prepare measuring equipment and tools, train researchers, and prepare shopping mall walking plan guidelines to establish shopping mall walking protocol. In the second stage, a single group of pre- and post-test study design will be applied for this pilot study, in order to validate the program. In the third stage, an experimental design of random allocation will be used to verify the effectiveness of the mall walking program. Research measurements include basic demographic information, physical function, overall cognitive state, psychosocial status, and quality of life. Monitor vital signs before each intervention and measure walking time and steps during each protocol. This study is expected to construct an "mall walking" program especially for the older adults in the communities in Taiwan. It will enhance and maintain the physical function and cognition of older adults living in the community, and increase their participation in social activities. Study result is expected to be promoted to each and every community in the future for older adults and influence health promotion policy within Taiwan.
