Developing Rehabilitation and Exercise Guideline for Patients Receiving Advanced Surgery by Functional Approach Based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (Icf)

Although rehabilitation for total knee replacement (TKR) and gynecological surgery has been developed, the program only focused on muscle strengthening, regain of range of motion. The functional restoration such as driving, exercise, return to work and activities of daily living was not enrolled in the rehabilitation program after surgery. Moreover, the high technology for surgery such as Da Vinci is popular in Taiwan recently. However, the standardized post Da Vinci surgery rehabilitation program guideline is still lacking. Therefore, we proposed this study to construct the comprehensive rehabilitation program based on the framework of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). We also investigate the efficacy and feasibility of this ICF based rehabilitation program by clinical case control study. The program is a three-year project. In the first year, the ICF core set of post TKR and Da Vinci surgery will be established by using Delphi method and recruit 10 participants for feasibility pilot study; the second year will investigate 30 participants who receive ICF-based rehabilitation program and compared with 30 ones receiving conventional rehabilitation control group in the aspect of WOMAC, SF-36, WHODAS 2.0, return to work and activities of daily living as well as follow-up 3 months after surgery in one hospital; the third year will recruit 60 participants who received ICF-based rehabilitation program and compared with conventional rehabilitation case control group (60 participants) in three hospitals (multi-centers). This study will provide effective functional rehabilitation guideline for patients receiving advanced technology related surgery.
