Description
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease usually is diagnosed and staged by spirometry objectively. This procedure is limited, especially in elder patients due to poor cooperation. Leakage, weakness and dyspnea are major factors. In Taiwan, these patients don’t have insight of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. They don’t understand the progressive severity of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease until the examination data of pulmonary function test reveals. In molecular biology study showed some cytokines changes were related to mechanism and severity of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Usually these samples were taken from lavage and serum. It is inconvenient for patients due to invasive studies and specific laboratory. We hope to develop a sample device to detect Volatile organic compound of immunologic response from exhaled gas. This time, we should aspire the gas from expired circuit to analysis the Microorganisms by GC-Mass. Then, we try to find the true pathogens by e-nose from expired circuit. We can make diagnose and severity evaluation of Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from these data and decrease the morbidity and mortality of the disease.
