Taipei Medical University trains humane medical professionals with a unique international outlook of medicine. These medical professionals follow a noble mission of nurturing and caring for their patients regardless of the situation. Finding individuals that can dedicate their lives to this mission is difficult, in order to do so we have changed our admissions process.
For admission, in order to recruit the most exceptional students who are suitable in the medical field, we have decided to expand our admission qualification; this includes: increasing the enrollment of individual applicants, increasing the enrollment of star students recommended by high schools, reducing the number of students accepted based on specific test scores, and increasing the acceptance ratio of foreign students. Additionally, the School of Medicine will also enroll students from remote areas who were supported by public funds. We hope these students will take appreciate this public support and fulfill their responsibility, by returning home and caring for local people after graduation.
The training program is a seven year curriculum. The first and second year are dedicated to general knowledge and pre-medical classes. The third and fourth years of instruction focus on advanced knowledge of clinical medicine and implementation of care for patients. Students take on work known as a “clerkship” during their fifth and sixth years. For their seventh year, students are advanced into “internship” positions. They are guided through real-world examples as part of problem-based learning approach. Students focus on team based learning combining the expertise of multiple disciplines and backgrounds.
