Graduate Institute of Pharmacognosy was established in1992. The first chairman was professor Yen Kun-Ying. Through 22 sessions, Institute has been educating over 197 Masters.
The research of Graduate Institute of Pharmacognosy cultivates outstanding professionals for industry, research and professional practice. Our research focuses on isolation and structural chemistry of medical herbs, and the development of Chinese herbs and functional foods for anti-hypertension, anti-hepatitis, anti-hyperglycemia, anti-cancer, and immune regulation. By the cooperation with government and biotechnology industry, pharmacognosy development can fit up with people’s need and government’s policy. In education, the core value is applying pharmacognosy, crude drugs development, and clinical research on Chinese herbal medicine. Students are instructed the ability to research chemical substances and reactivity of Chinese herbal medicine as well as skills for isolating and analyzing the structures of natural products, natural products pharmacology, molecular mechanisms and knowledge associated with applying Chinese herbal medicine to clinical medical needs. After graduation, students seek careers associated with Chinese herbal medicine or biotechnology.
